About us

Organization History

Panda Wok has been in the works for a few years. Wherever and whenever, for more choice other than food inside a restaurant, Ghanaian cuisine has been the option. Local food is wonderful, but we also know "from long" that Chinese food has had a place at the heart of the Ghanaian's palette. In early post-independence Ghana, Chinese restaurants like Mandarin and Pearl of the East catered to the elite.

Many more restaurants have since joined the fray. The craving for Chinese food in today's Ghana knows no limit, and thus is born our idea to offer Chinese food conveniently on the go to our discerning customer.

Who are we?

The Fathers of two members of our team did business together in Ghana going back more than 10 years. While our Ghanaian-Chinese team is bound together by the legacy of their working relationship, our coming together to the idea for Panda Wok has disparate beginnings. Over lunch one day a couple years ago, two of us were seeing many folks out buying local food including waakye, kenkey and fish, and red-red.

"Hmm..." we each thought. More recently last year in 2017, a different two of us identified kiosks selling food to drive-by customers, men in suits in a hurry, women in heels on a mission. "Hmm..." they thought. One random day early this year, we met up and exchanged those two strands of thought; "hmm..." was an uncanny and exciting coincidence that binds us as a team going forward.

In Time

Judging by international markets --and Ghana is no exception-- Chinese food has broad appeal. In early days of Chinese cuisine being introduced in Ghana, there were distinctions between Szechuan, Mandarin, and Peking cuisines for example. Over time, these boundaries have blurred somewhat under a catch-all Chinese umbrella. Panda Wok does not aim to re-establish these distinctions in a dogmatic fashion but will be ready to orient its offering to meet some customer preferences as tastes evolve. There is a fine line Panda Wok hopes to straddle between serving up authentic Chinese fare and satisfying our customers' taste buds.
